Position Title:Civil / Structural  Operations and Maintenance Support Engineer
Salary Band:  L

Work Location & Schedule:Valdez, AKThis is an exempt level position that works an urban 40-hour week or compressed work week 9/80 schedule. Relocation benefits may apply.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicant must meet or exceed these minimum job requirements to apply for this position. §          Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant technical degree.  Additional related exempt level experience above the minimum may be substituted for the education requirement.§          Minimum of three (3) years experience as a civil engineer with progressively higher levels of responsibility in design of structures and/or seismic analysis of piping and pipe support systems.§          A valid State of Alaska Driver’s License is required to support frequent visits to field locations.§          Strong written and oral communications skills.§          Basic technical problem solving and troubleshooting skills
Preferences:§          Seven (7) years related work experience.§          Knowledge of International/Uniform Building code, ASME facility piping code, and OSHA safety regulations §          Civil Engineering degree with an emphasis in structural engineering and slope stability work. §          Ability to work independently and perform successfully in a team environment.§          Experience in the seismic qualification of mechanical and electrical equipment.§          Experience in process related facilities such as petrochemical plant, refinery, or pipeline environment.§          Registered Professional Civil Engineer.
Accountabilities and Specific Requirements: Under general direction of the Valdez Marine Terminal (VMT) Engineering Supervisor the Civil / Structural  Operations and Maintenance Support Engineer is accountable for the following:  §          Supporting operation and maintenance of the VMT facilities, grounds, roadways and drainage systems.  §          Design work will include access platform modifications, small concrete structures, snow shelters, pipe supports, etc.  §          Accountable to provide direction to maintenance teams performing excavation work and to develop excavation plans.  §          Programmatic accountabilities will include oversight of the VMT slope stability-monitoring program, VMT civil surveillance monitoring program, and the VMT subsurface drainage system and industrial waste water system (IWWS) testing program.  In addition§          Responsible for creating/maintaining master specifications and standard maintenance procedures for civil-related activities and ensuring compliance with inspection and maintenance requirements for secondary containment systems.§          Expected to review conceptual, preliminary and final civil engineering designs.  Major deliverables include:§          Evaluate and design modifications recommended by Operations and Maintenance (O&M) for technical validity and good business practice.  §          Represent Operations in the technical aspects of O&M project design reviews.  §          Assist project engineers in the development and validation of project scope of work.  §          Develop work scope for minor modifications to facilities, grounds, roadways and drainage systems.  Prepare annual civil monitoring program reports.

Pre-Employment Drug Screen TestingAlyeska Pipeline Service Company (APSC) requires pre-employment drug testing utilizing hair test collections for all positions. The preferred collection site is from the head (approximately 1+1/2 inches of hair length necessary).   Head hair testing provides an approximate 90 day window of detection that checks for illegal drug use.  In addition, for Department of Transportation covered positions, APSC will also utilize urinalysis testing. Any positive drug test makes you ineligible for APSC employment.
TWICAlyeska’s Valdez Marine Terminal (VMT) is a regulated facility and an employee hired to work on the VMT or to provide emergency support or other approved work for the VMT will be required to have a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).  For more information about this Federal credential access the Web site listed below.  The successful candidate for this job will be notified if a TWIC will be required and will then be responsible for enrolling and obtaining a TWIC prior to their hire date.
